We are partnering with a global, AI first technology platform operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence, robotics, and chemistry, transforming how new medicines and materials are discovered.
Within this organisation sits a specialist group focused on next generation automated compound synthesis, operating one of the largest commercially accessible automated synthesis platforms worldwide. By combining proprietary experimental data with advanced AI/ML models, the team enables high throughput compound library generation at unprecedented scale, speed, and reliability.
To support continued growth and commercial adoption across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, we are seeking a Chemistry Director of Business Development to lead strategic customer engagement and revenue growth.
📍 Location focus: Boston, San Diego, or San Francisco
✈️ Travel: Approximately 30%
This is a senior, customer facing role responsible for expanding adoption of AI enabled automated chemistry solutions across drug discovery organisations.
You will work closely with medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, and discovery leadership teams, guiding complex, consultative sales processes and building long term strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and execute business development strategies to drive growth of automated library synthesis solutions
• Identify, engage, and build senior level relationships within pharmaceutical and biotech organisations
• Lead commercial discussions across two core offerings:
Customised compound library design and synthesis for strategic partnerships
A virtual make on demand chemical space platform providing rapid access to novel compounds
• Clearly articulate the value of AI driven, automated chemistry to technical and scientific stakeholders
• Manage complex, consultative sales cycles involving cross functional technical discussions
• Identify customer pain points within drug discovery workflows, particularly in medicinal and computational chemistry
• Collaborate closely with internal scientific, automation, and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery
• Build and grow strategic accounts while expanding the broader customer base
Experience & Background
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or related field strongly preferred
• 5 – 10 years’ experience in business development, strategic sales, or account management within:
CRO services
Medicinal chemistry
Compound or library synthesis
Drug discovery platforms or enabling technologies
