  • Excellent Opportunity to Contribute to the Development of their Data Handling and Management to Support the Delivery of the Projects to Impact on this Fast Developing Field.
 Overview:

James Hume is currently recruiting for two Analytical Data Scientists to join a center of excellence that is leading the way in the development of cell & gene therapies by providing the multi - disciplinary expertise needed to bring these to the market.  Their R&D Laboratories are in Central London, where this role will be based, and its purpose is to support the streamlining of their current data handling and management to accelerate the delivery of their projects and ultimately impact on the cell & gene therapy field.

The Company:

The company are an independent centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a market leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialisation of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they are expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.

The Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity where you will be able to use your science to influence the streamlining of their architecture for the analysis and management of data arising from their development laboratories.  There is a focus on data modelling, analysis and interpretation to drive forward their research into intelligent manufacture.  You will be working with scientists from senior to junior to undertake data analysis across a range of projects on collaboration with UK and International partners.  With the purpose to develop innovative approaches for advanced product characterisation for a range of different therapies.

You will be working autonomously to analyse the raw data using a range of techniques, packages and / or software tools, using your technical expertise to analyse and summarise the datasets using relevant descriptive statistics or other statistical methods and applying these to a range of projects that includes the use of sensors and large cell / molecular biological datasets.  You will often be working autonomously so the ability to work independently to analysis raw data is needed for this role, for it to then be used as part of their research into the develop of cell based therapies to take these into clinical trials and accelerate the delivery of projects.

This is one of those rare opportunities where you will have influence on the shape of the architecture to be used for the analysis and reporting of data.  This is an expanding area of the company and comes with the chance to develop your career with them as they continue to lead the market in this fast developing sector.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

You will need to have experience of using a range of data analysis techniques, data analysis packages, and / or software tools.  They currently use MATLAB so experience of scripting programmes like this or similar platforms is essential.  You will additionally need to have experience automating data analysis, statistical analysis and data visualization techniques as a minimum.  However, if you have experience of other techniques such as data clustering, signal / image processing, data modelling, machine learning, automated high throughput analysis, and structured data then this is advantageous to your application.

This role is suited to a recent PhD or equivalent graduate with relevant experience, or someone with post-doctoral experience whose research focused on the development of scripts for the analysis of various types of data.  Or someone with an MSc with relevant industrial experience of data analysis within the life sciences / pharmaceutical / biotech sectors.
