Are you a Biochemist with a particular background in Protein Biochemistry, backed with either a MSc / BSc or PhD? Do you have a strong knowledge of ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting and other Immunoassay techniques? Do you have some experience of working in a process-led environment, where you have undertaken different projects relating to developing methods? Do you have strong data analysis, presentation and scientific problem-solving skills?

If you can answer Yes to these questions, then this opportunity on the South Coast could be a great career step for you. We have a brand-new role for a Method Development Scientist, focusing on Biochemical methods, with a leading Biopharmaceutical company who develop and manufacture vaccines which are based on their pioneering immunotherapy technology.

This is a permanent role with a competitive salary (depending on experience, anything from “mid 20s” to “late 30s”), excellent benefits (including pension, life insurance, vouchers and more), lots of opportunities for career development and taking ownership of projects, and a diverse, inclusive and positive environment where great emphasis is placed on working collaboratively.

You will be based full-time on site in Worthing, West Sussex.

The Role

These roles are based within the Development Team which is central to the discovery, manufacture and testing of company’s therapies. You would undertake different projects to develop analytical methods to be used within the Innovation, Quality and Manufacturing departments, or to identify solutions to problems that arise during manufacture or elsewhere.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, validate and optimise ELISA, Western Blotting, SDS-PAGE and other biochemical techniques

  • Analyse data to support development of new vaccines, optimise existing and quality control

  • Oversee the transfer of assays

  • Use data to drive research forwards

  • Manage compliance to GMP

  • Use science to contribute to solve complex problems

The Company

A pioneering Europe-based Pharmaceutical organisation specialising in the treatment and prevention of allergies. Their unique focus is on the vaccination and prevention of conditions such as hay fever and their products are fascinating, complex and ever-changing. The company employs over 300 people in Worthing, West Sussex and has an excellent reputation for providing career development opportunities, challenging and engaging work and a pleasant, vibrant working environment.

Experience Required

The successful candidate will ideally have a degree (or higher) in Biochemistry or similar, with a strong grounding in ELISA, Western Blotting, SDS-PAGE and other protein-based techniques, and the application of different methods within a regulated lab setting. Knowledge of working with pharmacopoeia in a commercial Pharmaceutical company, and following GMP, would be a strong advantage, though is not essential. You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to scrutinise and investigate different data, and the ability to see a scientific problem from different angles.
