Do you have experience of formulating injectable Pharmaceutical dosage forms?
Do you have a Masters or PhD in Chemistry, Formulation Science, Pharmaceutical Science or Drug Delivery?
Are you looking to embark on a fascinating career that helps develop pioneering new technology?

A brand-new role has been created with an innovative Biotechnology company in Guildford, Surrey, which has developed and patented a novel liposome drug delivery carrier. Their technology offers huge possibilities across the life science world, particularly the growing gene therapy / ATMP sector. You will have the opportunity to work on a fast-expanding portfolio of R&D projects, making full use of your scientific expertise.

This is a permanent position, paying a very competitive salary. A PhD and / or good experience could mean a salary around £33,000. You will be based on site in Guildford, working in a modern lab with the support of a knowledgeable, positive team around you.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who enjoys learning. Your focus will be on injectable dosage form development, covering all aspects of the formulation process. Candidates without a Masters / PhD, but with a BSc degree and some good lab-based experience (e.g. vaccines, chemotherapy products or other liquid dosage forms), will also be considered for this position.

The Role:

As a Formulation Scientist, you will use your knowledge and experience of injectable dosage forms to assist with a range of formulation projects, developing novel injectable drug carrier systems for use in gene therapy and pharmaceutical applications. Your duties will include:

  • Preparing samples, encapsulating them with the company’s silicon-based Biocarrier, then testing the samples for loading, release and stability
  • Compiling detailed data reports based on weekly protocols and project plans
  • Use of different equipment including UV, HPLC, KF, GE and Zetasizer, for different formulation and analytical purposes
  • Managing your own workload to satisfy project requirements
  • Participating in planning meetings and producing data to support ongoing R&D initiatives

Skills and Experience Required:

The successful candidate will ideally have a higher degree (MSc or PhD) in Chemistry, Formulation Science, Drug Delivery or Pharmaceutical Science. Candidates with a BSc degree will also be considered. Experience gained in a commercial R&D or Pharmaceutical setting would be an advantage but is not essential – it will also be ok if your experience is solely from your studies. You will need to demonstrate a passion for developing injectable formulations, whether you have gained experience of this during your studies or within an R&D / commercial environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, hard-working individual with experience of working in a formulation / analytical lab, using techniques such as HPLC and UV spectroscopy, Karl Fischer, GE and Zetasizer. This is a permanent role in Guildford, Surrey, in which you can be part of something truly pioneering, within an ambitious, growing biotech business.
