Are you looking for an opportunity where you can use your scientific expertise in a truly cutting edge environment?

Where you will not only have an influential role but have the chance to steer the strategy of the company linked to Molecular Biology and Viral Vectors.

Then this is the opportunity for you as you will be joining a company right at the beginning of realising its potential!

Job Summary:
This is a strategic role where you will have influence on the scientific direction of the company because they are seeking an innovative scientist who can bring on board new technologies, develop new methods using their cutting-edge technologies, and lead by example. As the Group Leader you will be line managing a team of 8 scientists working on both internal and external platform development projects.

The science is focusing on developing the tools to be used in the development of Novel Viral Vectors, as well as the construction of a DNA library.  As well as other Molecular Biology linked projects such as cell line development, bio-production, expression system optimisation for example.  There is a separate analytical department which means this role is focused on the development of synthetic tools for use across the company.

The Company

The company are at the cutting edge of the use of Synthetic Biology with a platform technology that enables them to engineer DNA which is a unifying theme across all their services – DNA design, expression system optimisation, cell line development and with a particular focus on viral delivery systems.

They are going through a continued period of expansion due to the demand of their services from industry as well as after entering some major longstanding partnerships.  In addition to this they have other technologies under development after securing funding that will further enhance the portfolio of services they can offer. They have an excellent culture where staff are all working closely together with the opportunity of rapid promotion as part of their culture and provide the chance to learn new skills.  In addition to the career path they are conscious of the work team members put in and because of this arrange regular events outside of work, away days and other events internally.

Desired Skills and Experience:
They are looking for a PhD qualified scientist with commercial experience of utilising molecular biology techniques and applying them in a synthetic R&D environment.  You will need to have an understanding of viral vector genetics, gene editing tools, as well as DNA assembly platforms using Gibson / Golden Gate methods as appropriate.  Along with experience of managing small teams with the responsibility for their line management, training and strategic development.
