Description

I am delighted to work with an exciting and successful Medical Device company that are looking for someone to be the Head of Research and Development within the company. They are a specialist company in Optometry. My client offers the work on advanced technology focusing on image processing, machine learning, computer vision and artificial intelligence, whilst being able to gain new skills and grow your career.

You will be excited about working in a growing team, the prospect of pioneering medical advances, working with world leading experts and you will have a track record of making things happen. You will be able to manage your projects and time along with the that of the R&D team, deliver to deadlines and work both collaboratively and independently. Finally, you will have the ability to recognise the commercial impact of delivering new projects on time.

Responsibilities as Head of Engineering

  • Manage a team of R&D Engineers - Manage the planning and implementation of projects, allocating projects, timelines, instigate reporting and feedback procedures

  • Act as intermediary between, and represent, the R&D team in management meetings to ensure company delivers new product development in accordance commercial requirements

  • Oversee and assist in capturing user/product requirements.

  • Manage the Documentation technical investigations.

  • Contribute to mechanical, electrical and/or optical designs.

  • Write/contribute to documents for the device Technical File where appropriate.

  • Develop proof of principle algorithms and prototypes.

  • Support patent applications where appropriate.

  • Support, from a technical perspective, life cycle of the devices.

  • Develop calibration tests for manufacture.

  • Implement a best practice culture of development in line with ISO 13485 continuous improvement principles.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Graduate Engineer, Physicist, Mechanical, Electrical, Mathematician or equivalent. PhD would be a strong advantage.

  • At least three years’ experience within a multidisciplinary Research and Development environment, ideally working on medical devices.

  • Ability to be a technical authority on a system or sub-system and provide guidance to the rest of team.

  • Ability to deliver R&D projects, through management of the team, in accordance with commercial timelines and objectives


Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Graduate Engineer, Physicist, Mechanical, Electrical, Mathematician or equivalent. PhD would be a strong advantage.

  • Experience of ISO 13485:2016

  • Knowledge of compliance testing requirements

  • Experience of Medical Device design and manufacture
