Leading Highway Services business currently requires an experienced Infrastructure Engineer/Wintel Systems Administrator to join its IT team in Horsham, West Sussex.  Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager your role will be heavily focused on Wintel systems administration and network troubleshooting.  You will be responsible for the maintenance and support of my client’s UK services, working with the infrastructure team and external providers, you will be responsible for ensuring service uptime, availability, responsiveness and monitoring as well as the resolution of support Incidents and Service Requests escalated from 1st and 2nd line Service Desk as well as the delivery of project work across various disciplines. The Infrastructure Engineer/Wintel Systems Administrator will perform other support related tasks that contribute to an improved service to users and will be required to take part in the 24/7 on call support rota.

Key daily tasks:

  • Based in the Horsham office, although occasional visits to other locations may be required
  • Fully configure, support, maintain and upgrade in-house servers and network
  • Monitor system performance (availability, utilization, throughput, and latency) and test for weaknesses
  • Deploy defined system solutions for permanent and temporary locations
  • Support and administer third-party applications
  • Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords
  • Resolve all escalated Incidents, Service and Change Requests within SLA
  • Undertake proactive maintenance to prevent Incidents occurring, including advice and guidance on best practice
  • Create and maintain processes to manage repeatedly logged Incidents, problem management
  • Provide assistance with the build and ongoing support of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, 2016 and Windows workstation 7/8/10 and future operating systems
  • Provide assistance with mobile device configuration and management
  • Provide backup to the Service Desk when required and support at other locations as requested
  • Do R&D into new solutions and take ownership of the new solution
  • Provide weekly report of progress to the Infrastructure Manager
  • Document processes and services

Skills requirements:

  • Excellent understanding of Active Directory, GPO (group policy object) DNS and FSMO
  • Windows operating systems server - Windows 2003, 2008, 2012 2016 Server and Windows workstation 7/8/10
  • SCCM including imaging and software packaging
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Virtualisation skills, VMWare and Hyper-V
  • Understanding TCP/IP networks
  • Understanding of MPLS, WAN and ADSL/FTTC/Fibre/3G/4G etc.
  • Network maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Experience of working in an ITIL environment preferred
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
