My client a market leader in vehicle protection systems currently seeks an experienced Lead Engineer – Electrical Systems who will work in a hands-on capacity and be involved in the design, development and validation of electrical and electronic systems.

Working as the Lead Engineer your key daily responsibilities will include: -
  • Co-ordinate all activities within the Electrical Systems team, this will include all resource planning, plan/ prioritise workflow, ensure the Electrical Systems team are meeting project timeline objectives.
  • Provide inspirational leadership and Super-User-level technical guidance and advice
  • Implement and monitor a programme within the Electrical Systems team aimed at increasing levels of standardisation in order to drive down Process variations, Stock of materials, Engineering time
  • Top-level “sign-off” of electrical / electronic / firmware solutions
  • Introduce and oversee Electrical Systems team’s continuous drive to reduce defects and down-time
  • Accept ultimate responsibility for the characteristics of solutions delivered by the Electrical Systems team, including but not limited to Safety / legality, conformance to specification / performance / reliability / maintainability, cost / weight
  • In addition to the “department-level” nature of this role, there will be times when it is necessary to operate at a project level and will require attendance to project design reviews
  • Advise / guide / demand design changes / step-in to introduce and monitor corrective measures for “project crises”
  • To understand and comply with company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, ISO9001 and ISO14001.
  • Introduce, develop and maintain a design process that enables both the conceptual and detail designs of vehicle electrical systems that is both cost effective and future proof. This should include fault diagnosis at a part and system level.
Suitable candidates will require the following Qualifications:-

Educated to Degree-level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or HNC with recognised industry experience and training

Key Experience/Knowledge required:-
  • Experience working in a vehicle manufacturing company (essential)
  • Experience working in a military vehicle manufacturer (preferred)
  • Experience working in a low-volume special-vehicle manufacturer (acceptable)
  • Experience working in an automotive OEM or tier 1 supplier (acceptable)
  • Extensive experience of vehicle electrical design; including understanding and generating wiring build diagrams and schematics for in house and third-party use (essential)
  • Experience and understanding of automotive networks; CAN, OBD and multiplexing (essential)
  • Experience of all aspects of managing a team (HR aspects, sickness, holidays etc)
  • Inspirational leadership. Excellent communicator. Proven delegator / motivator
  • Project management skills. Planning, monitoring, delivering
  • Comfortable with IT packages / Apps, Non-specific IT skills: MS Office (all apps) + MS Project (all essential) Arcadia (Preferred), ability to code in a high-level language (e.g. C++)
  • Deep understanding of validation tools and processes (DVP, DFMEA etc)
  • Appreciation for quality standards and understanding of quality processes
  • Experience of military harness design (preferred)
  • Screening / covering materials, connectors, production and test standards
  • Designing in accordance with DEF STAN 61-05 (de-rating)
  • Experience of automotive harness design (essential)
  • Water-proof (preferred)
  • Experience of designing module enclosures
  • Understanding the issues around EMC and the techniques for managing them
  • Experience of whole-vehicle testing
  • Experience of producing or procuring military-style technical publications
  • Experience of military standards (DEF STANs, MIL STDs, STANAGS)
  • Experience of military electrical kit

In return for your skills and experience my client is able to offer a salary up to £50,000 plus 25 days holiday, private medical and cycle to work schemes
