An exciting opportunity for an experienced Downstream Manufacturing Scientist. My client who are at the forefront of advancing the growth of the UK cell and gene therapy industry currently seeks an Upstream Manufacturing Scientist to join their team based in Essex. This is a permanent role with salary up to £39,000 (DOE) plus an excellent benefits package

Reporting to the Downstream Manufacturing Senior Scientist, the core function of the role will be to execute Downstream Manufacturing activities required for purification of Bioreactor derived Bulk Drug substance products to the point of transfer to the customer interface.

The key accountabilities for the role are:-

  • Execute direct activities in the Downstream GMP operation Manufacturing area.

  • Deputise for the Downstream Snr Scientist

  • Assist in the direct delivery of the agreed manufacturing plan to maintain performance.

  • Direct ALCOA compliant completion of Downstream Manufacturing

  • Contribute to the Downstream Manufacturing Equipment Processes and the area periodic validation / planned maintenance / calibration activities.

  • Complete Downstream Manufacturing area cleaning / disinfection actions.


The right candidate for this role will have thefollowing profile:

  • Degree educated in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related subject.

  • Manufacturing experience in a Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology environment

  • Extensive knowledge of current GMP rules and the manufacture of Biological Products.

  • Be highly motivated, pragmatic, and practical.
