An exciting new Optics Engineer (NPD) opportunity has arisen in Dunfermline with a market leader of ophthalmology diagnostic devices, on a 12 month fixed term contract basis to cover maternity leave.

The Role
As an integral part of the design and development team you will be responsible for the continuous improvement of the existing product portfolio alongside development of new concept optical systems. From prototype to testing methods and failure report analysis you will be responsible for producing innovative medical devices that have positive effects on patient’s lives. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will collaborate with colleagues from product engineering to ensure design intent is made a reality in production. Providing technical support to customers and colleagues alike you will need excellent communications skills and a creative approach to design and problem solving.

Experience
At a minimum a degree in Physics, Optoelectronics or Optics, but preferable also a PhD in an appropriate discipline. The successful candidate will have experience within a commercial environment of the design and development of optical systems, including illumination, detection and scanning systems and have worked with both passive and active components from a design concept and review perspective. Ideally your experience will come from the medical device industry but other scientific/instrumentation industries will also be considered. Proficient in modelling software for systems design and analysis and optical test methods, an interest and passion for technological advances in this specialist area will also be advantageous.
