Are you an experienced Systems Engineer with a strong background in implementing and managing SCADA systems, and a passion for Automation? Are you looking for a new challenge where you can be involved in producing cutting-edge cancer treatments?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems & Automation Engineer to join a unique organisation that manufactures personalised cancer therapies. The company has an excellent reputation for its forward-thinking science, its busy and friendly environment, and the collaborative nature of how each team works together. You will join a growing Engineering Team at the company’s state-of-the-art GMP manufacturing facility in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

This is a permanent position, paying an excellent salary, bonus, and benefits (to be discussed on application). You will work a 35-hour work, typically 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Candidates will be considered at either an intermediate level (Process Control Systems Engineer) or a more senior level (Process Control Systems Engineer II), depending on experience. We are open to people who have studied automation engineering at university, or people who have developed their skills through an apprenticeship and longer industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

You will join a small, collaborative team working in close collaboration with instrument control and other engineering groups, alongside scientific and production teams. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Being the key point of contact for all automation and data collection systems.
  • Providing Automation and Engineering support to all projects implementing SCADA / MES solutions.
  • Developing processes and procedures for the compliant implementation of all automation systems.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that business objectives are supported by the MES platform.
  • Designing control/SCADA systems including databases and database interfaces, data analytics & reporting.
  • Communicating with stake holders to understand requirements, scope of work and deliverables.
  • Work with IT, vendors, and internal end users to assess MES and SCADA system maintenance, updates and upgrades and the impact on the business and operations.
  • Driving/participating in all MES and SCADA system implementation, testing and release to production of the changes.

Skills & Experience
We are looking for a bright and ambitious individual who has a passion for automation and wants to work in a company that makes a genuine difference to people’s lives. This is NOT a large-scale manufacturing facility, but patient-specific production that takes place in modern, smaller, high-grade lab environments, requiring strong attention to detail and following strict processes.

You will ideally have the following:

  • Background in structured programming languages (SQL, VB, Python, HTML, Web API).
  • Control system (PLC) experience.
  • Fluency in at least one of the following SCADA platforms: Ignition, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Aveva (Wonderware) or GE.
  • Operating within the requirements of a Quality Management system.
  • Knowledge of equipment validation lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with Siemens and Rockwell PLCs.
