Overview:

James Hume is currently recruiting for 2 Process Development Scientists with experience of Immunology to join a centre of excellence who are leading the way in the development of cell & gene therapies.   By providing the multi - disciplinary expertise needed to bring these to the market.  Their R&D Laboratories are in Central London, where this role will be based, and its purpose is to support the development of  therapies to develop scalable clinical manufacturing protocols to eventually become suitable for commercial use.

The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a market leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialisation of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they are expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.

The Opportunity:

The Process Development Scientist role is within their R&D laboratories where you will use sate of the art tools to identify the process that will result in scalable manufacturing protocols.  Developing th processes to take novel therapies from research scale to a level suitable for clinical manufacture and ultimately commercial level.  This is in fact a relatively senior position within the laboratories with responsibility to design the experimental programmes with Senior Scientists and then manage these within the laboratories.  Then managing these throughout their lifecycle to ultimately deliver results by working closely with technicians who will support you in these, using your science to overcome any issues faced. 

This is a broad and challenging role where you will be able to use your science to overcome the hurdles faced in the commercialisation of cutting edge technologies.  You will be working on a number of programmes at a time in an innovative, collaborative and flexible environment.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

You will ideally be educated to PhD level or if you have an MSc with relevant commercial experience.  You will need to have experience of at least 2 of the following areas: 

  • Technology Transfer / Manufacturing Development
  • Industrial Immunotherapy
  • Pluripotent Stem Cell Bioprocessing (Embryonic or Induced)
  • Bioprocess Engineering

This is because they are seeing an increasing trend in the need for these skills which are in demand and needed for projects currently and going forward.
