  • To focus on Process Scale Up, Technology Transfer, Bioreactor, Cell Culture and Transfer to Clinical Trial or Commercial Manufacturer

Do you have experience of developing manufacturing processes for cell and / or gene therapies?

Do you have experience of supporting technology transfer and / or transfer to larger scale manufacture?

Then this could be the ideal opportunity to secure an opportunity with great development potential and join a company at the cutting edge of cell and gene therapy R&D!

Overview:
James Hume is currently recruiting for a Process Development Scientist with experience of manufacturing processes to join a centre of excellence.  That is leading the way in the development of cell & gene therapies by providing the multi - disciplinary expertise needed to bring these to the market.  Their R&D Laboratories are in Central London, where this role will be based, and its purpose is to support the development of cell therapies to develop scalable clinical manufacturing protocols to eventually become suitable for commercial use.

The Company:

The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a market leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialisation of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they are expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.

The Opportunity:

The Process Development Scientist role is within their R&D laboratories where you will use sate of the art tools to identify the process and analytical developments that will result in scalable manufacturing protocols.  Taking novel therapies from research processes to a level suitable for clinical manufacture and ultimately commercial level.  This is in fact senior within the laboratories with responsibility to design the experimental programmes with Senior Scientists.  Then managing these throughout their lifecycle to ultimately deliver results by working closely with technicians who will support you in these, using your science to overcome any issues faced.

This is a broad and challenging role where you will be able to use your science to overcome the hurdles faced in the commercialisation of cutting edge technologies.  You will be working on a number of programmes at a time in an innovative, collaborative and flexible environment.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

There is a particular focus on experience within a manufacturing environment (academic or commercial) developing and optimising processes, technology transfer, transfer to GMP manufacture, and scale up.  You must have experience of working in this type of environment.  You will also need to have cell culture experience of human and / or mammalian cell lines using bioreactors, preferably a variety of these e.g. stirred tank or hollow fibre bioreactors.  In addition they use flow cytometry in their laboratories so demonstrable experience of this is necessary. Ideally you will be educated to PhD level or equivalent, however a lower level qualification with industrial experience is also just as relevant.
