Role Purpose:

As the Programme Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of development, discovery, and funding projects with the purpose to promote the emerging Precision Medicine sector.  This sector has significant potential to better match patients with the most effective treatment for them by accurate diagnostics of disease.  Thus this government organisation needs to recruit a Programme Manager to support companies developing diagnostic devices so that these can be brought to the market by using you commercial and technical knowledge.

Context:

Precision Medicine is a fast-emerging sector that has great potential to match patients to the most effective treatment for their illness.  The key to this is accurate diagnosis of disease with a growing sector of companies developing point of care diagnostics, software solutions and laboratory tests to resolve this problem.

This government organisation invests in companies – from startups up to well established – that are developing technologies that tackle issues we face as a society.  This covers a broad range of areas including precision medicines, advanced therapies, medicine discovery, agriculture and food.  These are based on technologies developed in bioscience and medical research that are enabled by engineering and physical sciences.  Their purpose is to not only provide funding to those with a viable concept but also develop networking groups to knowledge share, provide regulatory expertise, commercial knowledge, and strategic support to bring these revolutionary technologies to market.

Role Summary:

This is an influential and strategic role that has the potential to positively impact this emerging market sector.  You will be the company’s “expert” on the diagnostics and precision medicine sector.  The Programme Manager will contribute to the development of this strategy for funding into this sector, ensuring this stays up to date using your market knowledge.  Then lead the implementation of this strategy to support the growth of the sector by helping companies develop and introduce new products to the market.

In addition to this the Programme Manager will work closely with relevant external bodies such as regulatory bodies, trade associations, government, business and academia for example.  That have influence on the sector to help you better implement the role purpose and build a UK wide innovation infrastructure.  So that you are able to impart knowledge gained from these interactions to the sector and use their resources to deliver and drive forward innovation.

You will be a central figure within this exciting sector and use this standing to create an infrastructure for the commercialisation of products including roadmaps, standards, input to future regulation, lead customer and investments by others in skills and next generation science.

Person Specification:

This role requires someone who has a good understanding of the diagnostics and / or precision medicine sector and the technology along with business experience gained in a decision-making capacity and an awareness of the challenges that this sector faces.  Your experience will need to include knowledge of commercial approaches, new product discovery and development.  Experience of operating in a commercial capacity e.g. senior level appointment, business development or marketing or market access is also necessary.  You will also need to provide evidence of managing projects that have delivered results.

NB: The company have asked candidate to provide a cover letter to support your application that provides an overview of your experience and its relevancy to this opportunity.
