Summary

James Hume is recruiting for a Project Manager to join a new manufacturing site in Stevenage that opened at the end of 2017 by a leading Cell and Gene Therapy R&D company.  The purpose of this new site is to manufacture therapies on a scale large enough for phase III clinical trials working in collaboration with academia and industry to bring these cutting-edge technologies to the market.  They are seeking a Project Manager who can oversee the onboarding and then ongoing management of projects through their lifecycle and other special projects as they arise as the centre continues to develop

The Company

The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialization of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  To meet this aim they have constructed a purpose built manufacturing centre which opened at the end of 2017 and immediately after opening additional funding was allocated for the centre to be doubled in size due to the demand for their services.  The site contains state of the art equipment and offers the flexibility to meet collaborators needs covering manufacturing, quality, storage and distribution functions.  Comprising of grade comprise of Grade A / B clean rooms, QC laboratories, warehousing, dispatch, along with segregated client production and business offices covering 7,200 m2.

The Role

The role of Project Manager is an influential role which is key to the successful operation of the new facility so that projects are on boarded correctly and then managed throughout the development lifecycle till completion.  In addition to this are projects relating to the expansion of the site as it continues to develop in the immediate and longer term.

The Collaborator Project Manager will be responsible for facilitating the relationship with collaborators coming into the manufacturing facility and then throughout the project till close out.  Taking responsibility for their experience whilst in the centre to ensure it is mutually beneficial.  You will work closely with the Operations Lead and Senior Project Manager throughout the onboarding process so that collaborators are moved into the centre to meet budget, quality and timeline expectations.  Once onboarded you will be responsible for the ongoing management of their projects ensuring expectations are met, manufacturing schedules completed and the day to day relationship managed as the first point of contact.  Liaising closely with the different departments in the centre e.g. Quality, Engineering, Warehousing etc. to ensure all efficient, effective and compliant coordination of all activities.

As the facility is now expanding to double in size you will also be working on additional projects linked to this as well as other special projects as they arise.  They work in a dynamic, proactive and collaborative environment where the focus is on providing the best service possible to their collaborators.

Experience

You will need to have experience of working in a similar R&D or manufacturing environment in the cell & gene therapy or biologics or biotech sector.  You will preferably have GMP experience or if not other relevant commercial experience.  You will need to have a technical understanding of the products gained either as a scientist or as a project manager working within this sector.  They are open to applications from those who want to move into project management from a science background or have project management experience within a relevant industry and environment.
