Summary

An excellent opportunity for a graduate Biochemist, with some experience in a regulated commercial QC lab environment, to progress your career with one of the most unique and highly respected Pharmaceutical companies in the country. If you have knowledge of Immunoassays (including ELISAs) and related techniques such as SDS-PAGE / Western Blotting, this could be an ideal next phase of your career. You will be involved in the analysis of different components of adjuvant vaccines based on living organisms and this will be an excellent opportunity to develop your GLP / GMP experience.

The Company

A pioneering Europe-based Pharmaceutical organisation specialising in the treatment and prevention of allergies. Their unique focus is on the vaccination and prevention of conditions such as hay fever and their products are fascinating, complex and ever-changing. The company employs around 250 people in Worthing and has an excellent reputation for providing career development opportunities, challenging and engaging work and a pleasant, vibrant working environment.

The Role

Using your background in biochemistry to the full, you will join the friendly Quality Control team and analyse samples (raw materials, intermediates and finished products) using a variety of techniques, logging all results on the in-house system and following GLP standards at all times. As a Level II Biochemist, you will take accountability for raising non-conformances, assisting in the training of more junior scientists and checking the accuracy of paper and computer-based records, as well as performing hands-on routine testing of raw materials, in-process samples and finished products.

You will be working with fascinating products and will learn all about unique drug development and production programmes. You will need to maintain high standards of cleanliness, calibrating equipment and investigating lab results that do not match with expectations. It is a positive, hard-working team and you will need to be the kind of person who excels in this type of environment.

Please note that your core hours are standard 8-4 days, but there may occasionally be the need to work earlier or later (earliest start 7am, latest finish 7pm).

Benefits
  • 25 days' holiday
  • Stakeholder pension plan
  • Life insurance scheme
  • Non-contractual, discretionary annual bonus
  • Long term disability scheme
  • Private medical plan
Experience

The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background (ideally a degree in Biochemistry, or similar – e.g. Biotechnology), with some experience gained in a regulated lab environment. This role would be ideal for a graduate with a year’s commercial lab placement experience. You must have a knowledge of various Immunoassay / Protein Profiling techniques (e.g. ELISA, SDS-PAGE, IEF) and general lab skills (e.g. pipetting), together with a genuine enthusiasm for your work. If you have had some Chemistry experience as well (e.g. HPLC), all the better. You will also need to demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a collaborative team, together with the ambition to develop a career within Pharmaceutical QC.
