Do you have a Chemistry-based degree and some good lab-based experience? A brand new role 12 months fixed – term contract position has been created for an Analytical Chemist to join the QC team of a leading Biopharmaceutical company in Worthing, West Sussex. If you are a recent Chemistry graduate (BSc, MSc, MChem), we would love to hear from you. If you have some commercial labexperience in a GLP / GMP setting (perhaps through a sandwich placement year) this will be a strong advantage. If you have experience with pharmacopeia testing of raw materials it would be a bonus.

The company offers a generous salary and benefits package, together with excellent training and a supportive, friendly working environment. Your working hours are 8am – 4pm, Monday to Friday, though there may occasionally be the need to start earlier (earliest 7am) or later.

This a fixed - term position and will be an excellent opportunity to progress your career with one of the most unique and highly respected pharmaceutical companies in the country. You will work with a range of techniques including HPLC, GC and traditional Wet Chemistry. You must be an enthusiastic, motivated individual who enjoys undertaking lab-based responsibilities and is keen to develop a career within a unique and scientifically challenging environment.

The Role

Reporting to the QC Team Leader, you will join a team of 10 Chemists who work alongside the Microbiology and Biochemistry labs to form the Quality Control (QC) department.

Your routine duties will include preparing and testing a wide variety of raw materials, in-process samples and finished products. You will use different chromatographic techniques such as HPLC and GC and will be responsible for maintaining and validating records on assay sheets and the LIMS system. You will assist in the maintenance and optimisation of lab equipment and will ensure that reagent stocks are ordered and maintained efficiently. You will receive extensive training in order to build up your knowledge and experience of the application of HPLC and other techniques within a Pharmaceutical development and manufacturing setting.

Benefits

In addition to a generous salary (to discuss on application) the company offers the following:

 25 days holiday + bank holidays

 Private healthcare

 Life insurance

 Company pension scheme

 Discretionary, non-contractual annual bonus

Experience
The successful candidate will have a strong Chemistry education (BSc or MSc / MChem) preferred, ideally backed with some experience gained in a commercial laboratory, although recent Chemistry graduates with no commercial experience will be considered too (as will people with experience but no degree). Pharmaceutical QC experience, following GLP / GMP regulations, would be a strong advantage, though candidates will be considered from other settings such as Food, Cosmetics, Diagnostics or Medical Device testing. If you have experience of pharmacopoeia testing of raw materials this would be a bonus. You must have a good understanding of chromatography techniques like HPLC and GC and will need to have the ambition to progress a long-term career in the lab. You will need to have excellent communication skills, a positive and supportive attitude and a real desire to further your knowledge within a unique, ever-evolving Pharmaceutical company.
