Do you have a Microbiology or similar degree and some good lab-based experience? A brand new permanent position has been created for a Microbiologist join the QC team of a leading Biopharmaceutical company in Worthing, West Sussex. If you are a recent Microbiology graduate (BSc, MSc), we would love to hear from you. If you have some commercial labexperience in a GLP / GMP setting (perhaps through a sandwich placement year) this will be a strong advantage.

The Role
Reporting to the QC Team Leader, you will join a team who work alongside the Chemistry and Biochemistry labs to form the Quality Control (QC) department.

Your routine duties will include methodical routine testing of drug ingredients and water samples, as well as aseptic environmental monitoring, particle monitoring, micro – organism identification and gowning monitoring, to support the complext production of liquid vaccines (oral and injectable), across both sterile and non- sterile GMP clean rooms. Using your background in microbiology to the full, you will join the friendly Quality Control team and analyse samples using a variety of techniques, logging all results on the in – house system and following GLP standards at all times.

As a Level II Microbiologist, you will take accountability for raising non – conformances, assisting in the training of more junior scientists and checking the accuracy of paper and computer – based records, as well as performing hands – on routine testing.

Experience
The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background (ideally a degree in Microbiology, or similar – e.g.: Biotechnology), with some experience gained in a regulated lab environment. This would be ideal for a graduate with a year’s commercial lab placement experience, but we will also consider people with lower qualification and more experience. You must have a knowledge of various Micro techniques (e.g.: bioburden, endotoxin, and other staining/micro organism identification and quantification techniques) and general lab skills (e.g.: microscopy), together with a genuine enthusiasm for your work. You will also need to demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a collaborative team, together with the ambition to develop a career within Pharmaceutical QC.
