Summary
Do you have an educational background in Chemistry and some experience from a commercial laboratory, ideally following GLP and / or GMP standards? A new role has been created for a QC Chemist to join a leading Pharmaceutical company in Worthing, West Sussex. You must be an enthusiastic, motivated individual who enjoys undertaking a range of lab-based responsibilities and is keen to develop a career within a unique and scientifically challenging environment. This is an ideal opportunity for a Chemistry graduate with some commercial laboratory experience in a GLP / GMP setting (perhaps through a sandwich placement year).

The Company
A pioneering UK-based Pharmaceutical company specialising in the development and production of sterile injectable and oral dose vaccines and diagnostic kits for people who suffer from allergies. They have developed an innovative approach to adjuvant therapy which will be of particular interest to someone with the ability to apply chemistry principles in a biopharmaceutical environment. There are around 250 employees in Worthing and the company has an excellent reputation for its welcoming atmosphere, staff morale and ongoing development.

The Role
Reporting to the QC Team Leader, you will join a small team of Chemists who work alongside the Microbiology and Biochemistry labs to form the Quality Control department.

Your routine duties will include preparing and testing a wide variety of raw materials, in-process samples and finished products. You will use different chromatographic techniques such as HPLC and GC and will be responsible for maintaining and validating records on assay sheets and the LIMS system. You will assist in the maintenance and optimisation of lab equipment and will ensure that reagent stocks are ordered and maintained efficiently. As a Level II Scientist, you will receive extensive training in order to build up your knowledge and experience of the application of HPLC and other techniques within a Pharmaceutical development and manufacturing setting.

Please note that your core hours are standard 8-4 days, but there may occasionally be the need to work earlier or later (earliest start 7am, latest finish 7pm). You will work Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week.

Benefits

  • 25 days’ holiday
  • Stakeholder pension plan
  • Life insurance scheme
  • Non-contractual, discretionary annual bonus
  • Long term disability scheme
  • Private medical plan

Experience
The successful candidate will have a strong Chemistry education (BSc or MSc / MChem) preferred, backed with some experience gained in a commercial laboratory. Pharmaceutical QC experience, following GLP / GMP regulations, would be a strong advantage, though candidates will be considered from other settings such as Food, Cosmetics, Diagnostics or Medical Device testing. You must have a good understanding of chromatography techniques like HPLC and GC and will need to have the ambition to progress a long-term career in the lab. You will need to have excellent communication skills, a positive and supportive attitude and a real desire to further your knowledge within a unique, ever-evolving Pharmaceutical company.
