Summary
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent PhD graduate to join an innovative company at the forefront of Stem Cell storage technology based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex.  The company aims to provide the best private storage bank service in the world by using their innovative science led approach.  They currently have a technology that yields a higher concentration of Hematopoietic stem cells than their competitors.  However they are developing new processing techniques that results in a greater range and higher quality of stem cell that need developing.  Thus they are looking for a Research Scientist to achieve this by working autonomously and using your science to deliver results.

The Company
The company is a leading provider of stem cell storage dedicated to delivering the best storage and process facilities worldwide currently storing more samples than any other UK private bank.  They were one of the first companies to provide stem cell storage in the UK and are the only company offering to store whole cord blood using cutting edge techniques.  These innovative techniques enables the storage of 20% more HSC’s (Hematopoietic stem cells) than any other technology used to reduce blood volume for storage.  However they are researching new techniques that yield a greater variety of stem cell types, prolong storage life, plus improve quality and processing time.  There are a number of research projects taking place at present which has led to this opportunity being created so that these can be developed further to be implemented across the company.

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of this small research team to be involved in a variety of projects that are to improve the techniques they employ when processing the stem cells for storage.  You will be working with a Director of the company who designed the concepts and oversee the research you will be conducting.  You will be using your tissue culture experience to enhance and refine the processes they are currently using to process the initial cord blood samples for storage.   As well as developing new methods for the processing of samples to increase yields further, or for when the samples are needed by the donor or when quality checking samples.  In this role you will predominantly working autonomously to reach the research targets by using your science to do so and explore new areas as well.

Experience
You will need to be educated to PhD or equivalent level in a relevant subject with experience of mammalian and / human cell or tissue culture.  If you have experience of working with primary human tissue then this is advantageous to your application.  In addition if you have some post doc or industrial experience then this is also advantageous application.
