  • An Opportunity with Great Potential because the Company are Expanding Internationally based on the Success of their Platform Technology and the Impact on the Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapy Sector.
  • A Leader in the Synthetic Biology Sector, they are a Specialized CRO who Offer Services for the Discovery, Development, and Production of Biologics and Viral Vectors for Gene Therapies.
Job Summary:

is a rare opportunity to join a company who are beginning to realise their potential, utilising their cutting edge synthetic biology methods to support the discovery, development and production of biologics.  They provide DNA design, expression system optimisation, cell line development and engineering of viral vector systems to their clients using a modular based platform technology.  Behind this they have further technologies that they are bringing to the market to complement the services they currently offer.  They are recruiting for a Scientist to join their Antibody Discovery team as the demand for their services increases and the need to additional expertise.

The Company

The company are leading the Synthetic Biology field in the UK and its application to the discovery, development and production of biologics, especially viral vectors for the delivery of Gene therapies.  What sets them apart is the potential of not just their current platform technology which enables them to provide expertise in DNA design, expression system optimisation, cell line development, and engineering of viral delivery systems.  But also, their upcoming technologies they are currently commercialising and for which they have received significant funding.  In addition, this has led to expansion to the US based on demand for their services.

They take a creative and entrepreneurial approach to all they do enabling you to use your science, bring your ideas to an exciting company where they are valued.

The Opportunity:

The purpose of the Scientist within the antibody discovery group is to lead internal and external projects in the laboratory which are focused on antibody discovery technologies and platforms.  This role is relatively senior within the laboratories working with the Group Leader to design the experimental programmes then running these in the laboratory, guiding technicians, driving these forward till their conclusion.  As this is a more senior position you will have regular interaction with clients as a point of contact providing technical advice, and presenting results for example.

You will be working on mammalian cells lines such as CHO & HEK to develop culture methods for both adherent and suspended lines.  With the purpose of generating antibody candidates from libraries in the context of mammalian display, then the subsequent expression, characterisation and profiling of lead molecules.  What makes this opportunity stand out from others is the chance to use your science to generate new ideas in an environment where an innovative and engineering approach is encouraged.

Desired Skills and Experience:

They are looking for a PhD, or equivalent, qualified scientist in a relevant discipline with experience of antibody discovery, especially the generation of antibody candidates from libraries.  Particularly in the context of mammalian display which is desirable, as is expression, characterisation and profiling of lead molecules.  You will have experience of mammalian cell culture techniques and methods for both adherent and suspended cell lines – e.g. maintenance, transfection, selection and cloning).  In addition experience of using flow cytometry, cell sorting, and antibody screening technologies.  If you have experience of engineering of viral vectors, preferably lentivirus this is advantageous to your application.
