Summary:
James Hume is recruiting for a Senior Scientist with experience of using Raman Spectroscopy in an R&D environment within the Biotech sector to join a unique company with growing influence on the sector.  Their purpose is to support the development of Cell & Gene Therapies by providing solutions to the challenges faced when taking novel therapies into the clinic.  They can see how Raman Spectroscopy can be of great use for the validation of cell characterisation approaches and has great potential that they are keen to realise.  Thus they need an experienced scientist to lead the use of this and other spectroscopic techniques in the company and continue to ensure they stay at the cutting edge of their field.

The Company:
The company are at the cutting edge of research into Cell and Gene therapies, working with their partners to take these through the commercialisation process to market launch.  So far they have successfully taken therapies to phase II clinical trials with these progressing to phase III soon.  Which has led to the construction of a new manufacturing facility to meet the increased volume of therapies needed for the latter stages of clinical trials.  The majority of their collaborations were with small to medium biotech’s who are under pressure to bring therapies to the clinic.  They are able to provide the solutions and pathways to achieve this with an increasing track record of success which outs them firmly at the forefront of this fast developing sector. They work in a very and dynamic forward thinking way looking to utlise the latest technologies enable them to remain at the forefront of research into this exciting sector that has great potential.

The Opportunity:
This is a senior role within the wider industrialisation Cell anteam and is focused on enhancing the use of Raman spectroscopy and other techniques and realise their potential for supporting the development of Cell and Gene Therapies.  You will be working closely with the Lead Analytical Development Scientist and the Head of Analytical Development throughout the full lifecycle of development projects setting out resources, times lines, budgets etc. and then take responsibility for their delivery.

The focus of this role is to help develop and validate innovative approaches for cell characterisation which can be used to help develop cell therapies.  You will oversee Analytical Development Scientists who are conducting the majority of the hands-on work to ensure their work meets the right quality and scientific standards.  You will be conducting analytical work by applying Raman to measure molecules in a biological culture system, as well as other analytical techniques such as LC – MS and relevant assays.  Analysing the data sets generated to determine a way forward, design experiments and deliver results.

As a Senior Scientist you will be in regular contact with external collaborators as a technical expert as well delivering presentations and supporting business development in this broad and influential role.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
You will need to be educated to either PhD or MSc level with relevant commercial experience with experience of using Raman spectroscopy in a relevant R&D environment such as cell & gene therapies or Biologics for example to measure molecules in biological systems.  In additional you will have experience of using LC – MS to knowledge of and how this can be applied to metabolomics.  You will also preferably have some experience of mammalian cell culture, process scale up, and assay transfer into and out of laboratories.
