ThisSenior Scientist opportunity offers the chance to join a multinational company at the forefront of the development of AAV and Gene Therapy technology.   With the capabilities to answer some of the most complex questions around gene therapies.  Their approach is to continually develop and commercialise new concepts to ensure the potential of their technology is realised and the company’s ambitions are achieved.

This opportunity is based at their Edinburgh site which is the R&D Engine of the company developing new platform technologies or enhancing existing platforms to reach the clinic.  This site is undergoing rapid development with plans to double in size to add people with expertise new to the company and build on their successes.  With major research plans underway and, in the pipeline, there are many career opportunities on offer.

The role:

The Edinburgh site is the centre of excellence for the engineering of cell lines for use in production of AAV Vectors.  Working with machine learning and bioinformatics experts to develop stable cell lines to transfer to the manufacturing team. 

Please note for this opportunity you do not need to have direct AAV experience but you do need to have transferrable skills in the development of cell lines for the production of viral vectors or antibodies for example.  What you will need is to demonstrate you have the capabilities to do so if selected for an interview

As a Senior Scientist you will be:

  • Design experimental R&D programmes to develop novel cell lines and explore new concepts.

  • Leading the design and implementation of engineering platforms using Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate and CRISPR for example

  • Leading the design of molecular biology techniques and assays such as PCR, FACS and flow cytometry

  • Work in close collaboration with colleagues in other internal Groups to deliver company’s scientific goals.

  • Mentoring and supervising more junior members of the team and managing their day-to-day activities.

Experience:

For this opportunity you will need to have:

  • A PhD in a relevant topic or equivalent commercial experience.

  • Experience of Cell Line Development with mammalian or human cell lines e.g adherent or stable.

  • Experience in the development of cell lines for protein, antibody, or viral vectors

  • Expertise in the design of Gibson Assembly or CRISPR or Golden Gate or Site Directed Mutagenesis

  • Experience in the use design of. FACS and / or Flow cytometry methods

  • Expertise in the use of molecular biology techniques and assays
