  • Senior Position with the Responsibility for Leading the use of Raman Spectroscopy in the Development of Cell & Gene Therapies
  • An Opportunity Where you will be able to use your Science and Expertise to Apply this Technology that has Great Potential in an Innovative and Cutting-Edge R&D Environment.

Summary:
James Hume is seeking a Senior Scientist who is well versed in the use of Raman Spectroscopy, or other relevant techniques, to join a company who specialize in the commercialisation of Cell & Gene Therapies.  In an influential role to help new therapies at the early stage of research to cross the translational gap and enter the clinic.  Raman spectroscopy has been identified as a technique that will be of great benefit in this process to lead its implementation and application in this dynamic environment.

The Company:
A centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK. With headquarters in Central London, they have built a market-leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialisation of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  The company’s longer-term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim, with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they are expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.

The Opportunity:
This is a senior role within the wider industrialisation team with the responsibility to initially lead the implementation and application of Raman Spectroscopy which has been identified by the Head of Analytical Development as a key technology for the development of cell & gene therapies.  As a Senior Scientist, you will be leading research programmes in the laboratories guiding these through the full development lifecycle overseeing a group of scientists.  An example of using Raman in this environment is to measure the molecules in a biological system for use in the characterisation of therapies to develop and validate these techniques for example.

In addition to the laboratory focus you will have client and outward focused responsibilities such as acting as a technical point of contact for external collaborators for their projects.  Providing technical support and advice throughout project lifecycles, support the Lead and Head of the Department in the establishment of projects.  To then deliver these on time and budget using your science and influence to do so.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
You will need to be educated to preferably PhD level however MSc is also relevant but you will need to have research or commercial experience after completing your education.  You will need to have used Raman Spectroscopy or other relevant techniques such as: NIR or FTIR in a cell and gene therapy or biologics or relevant R&D environment.
