  • Excellent Scientist Opportunity that Includes Stakeholder Interaction as well as Directing Projects in the Laboratory Throughout Their Lifecycle.
  • Ambitious Company in a Sustained Period of Growth Due to Potential of Their Platform Technologies.

Job Summary
This is a unique opportunity offering initial and longer term career development working on exciting cutting edge technologies.  For an ambitious company who are pioneers in the use of synthetic biology and its application to transform the discovery, development and manufacture of biologics, cell & gene therapies.  Based in state-of-the-art laboratories near Oxford they are at the cutting edge of research in this field, which has huge potential to deliver solutions for the production of complex, high value products.  They need to recruit an Upstream Process Development Scientist who can lead and deliver research projects in partnership with commercial organisations, alongside internal platform development projects that are crucial to the continued growth of the company.

The Company
The company are at the cutting edge of the exciting field of synthetic biology after developing their unique platform which enables them to offer solutions to the discovery, development and manufacture of biologics, cell & gene therapies.  They currently offer a range of custom and platform services, specialising in DNA design, optimisation of protein and viral expression systems, and cell line development technologies.

A strong focus is placed on R&D activities and further developing platform technologies, as supported by the recent receipt of multiple grants awards from Innovate UK.

The Opportunity
As an Process Development Scientist you will be focusing on the upstream processes of the internal and external research programmes developing production systems for therapeutic proteins and viral vectors.  This is a senior position within the laboratory team with the responsibility for planning and executing both internal and commercial research & development projects.  You will be leading projects from the front by designing experimental programmes, mentoring technicians and driving forward projects to agreed milestones and deliverables.

The focus of the role is to develop process development capabilities for the bio production of therapeutic proteins or viral vectors.  Working in collaboration with colleagues to develop and implement bioreactor systems for clone screening and upstream processes.  Using cutting edge technology such as AMBR15, AMBR250, DASGIP to do so.  As well as analysing the data generated from your research to drive it forward, plus support technology transfer.

This company has fantastic growth potential meaning there will be opportunities to further your career, and to contribute significantly in bringing new products and services to the market.

Desired Skills and Experience
They are looking for a creative thinking scientist who has a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Cell Biology or Biochemistry) that has been followed by experience of upstream processes for mammalian cell lines for bioproduction of proteins or viral vector production.  If you have experience of similar processes for protein production then this is advantageous to your application.  You will need to have an engineering mindset with the ability to use statistical approaches with experience of using small scale bioreactor systems.
