Assistant Accountant – Fixed Term Contract
An opportunity has recently become available for an Assistant Accountant to join a highly efficient, people led SME Pharma company who are based in south west London.

This position would be suitable to a technically astute person that thrives on being innovative and thinking outside the box. The Assistant Accountant will support both the Senior Finance Manager and Director of Finance in providing an accurate and timely record of the company’s financial position. As well as supporting the month end process and the production of management information.

This position is a 12-month fixed term contract paying up to £40,000 depending on experience. There may be further opportunities at the end of the 12 months. The role will initially be remote working, however it will slowly move back to a mixture of remote working and being office based as the restrictions ease in the UK. The office is based in in the London Borough of Hounslow. 

The Assistant Accountant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Management of Accounts Payable:
    • Ensuring all purchase invoices and employee expenses are properly authorised and reviewed in line with company policies.
    • Ensuring the Concur system for processing purchase orders, purchase invoices and employee expenses are correctly configured and up to date with approved policies and reimbursement rates for employee expenses.
    • Timely and accurate up-load of purchase invoices and employee expenses from Concur to the accounting system.
    • Ensure the accuracy of general ledger coding of purchase invoices and employee expense claims.
    • Preparation of payments to ensure suppliers and employees are paid within agreed terms.
    • Ensure the accuracy of aged accounts payable.
  • Management of Accounts Receivable
    • Processing of sales invoices.
    • Ensure customer payments are accurately posted.
    • Debtors control to ensure sales invoices are paid according to agreed terms.
  • Cash management:
    • Posting of receipts and payments on a daily basis.
    • Reconciliations of Bank Account
    • Maximise interest income through placing surplus cash on deposit.
  • Management of Tangible Asset Register:
    • Timely set up of all new tangible assets in line with accounting policies
    • Periodic review of the tangible asset register to identify assets requiring disposal
  • Preparation of inter-company reconciliations and resolving any differences.
  • Month End Processes
    • Preparation of accruals and prepayments in line with agreed month end timescales
    • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations in line with agreed month end timescales
  • Management of mandatory disclosure of payments to healthcare professionals
  • Preparation and submission of P11D returns and timely payment of Class 1A NIC.
  • Preparation and submission of P46 (Company car) returns on a monthly basis.
  • Liaison with other employees and other group Companies as required.
  • Various ad-hoc projects as and when they arise.
 
Required knowledge / education to be the successful candidate:
  • ACCA – part qualification is essential.
  • Previous experience of accounts receivable, accounts payable and assisting with month end processes including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations is essential.
  • Solid knowledge of the principles of double entry book-keeping.
  • Previous experience of Microsoft Dynamics Navision.
  • Previous experience of Concur would be an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
