A new opportunity has become available for a Scientific Compound Manager to support an integrated drug discovery specialist in Glasgow. Their drug discovery services include assay development, target analysis and bespoke screening strategies, compound screening, medicinal and synthetic chemistry, computational chemistry, and compound management, all with access to in-house diversity and fragment libraries. As part of its compound management service, they currently hold and manage over 1.5 million compounds for customers, in both liquid and solid formats.
 
The Scientific Compound Manager will be a crucial member of the company, playing a pivotal role in managing, and improving compound management activities. The Scientific Compound manager will support customers within Pharmaceutical, biotech, and academic organisations. As well as managing a small team of 3-4 Scientists. This role requires 5 days a week on site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high productivity and efficiency within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, such as medicinal chemistry, biology, and screening, to support their compound management needs.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements in compound management, proposing innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans to optimise processes, including inventory management, sample tracking, and quality control.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement of compound management equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and maintain accurate records of compound inventory, handling, and disposal.
 
The Requirements:
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in team management, coaching, and development.
  • Substantial compound management or similar experience in pre-clinical drug discovery within the CRO/biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
  • Profound knowledge and experience in compounds, and samples management and logistics.
  • An innate ability to identify new client needs and integrate them into departmental offerings.
  • A proactive approach to gathering feedback from stakeholders for continuous improvement.
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a matrix environment.
  • Capability for independent work and the ability to deputize as needed.
